About the Course
Tap into your team’s creativity in a painting activity with a twist. We provide the brushes, canvas and paint; participants provide the inspiration.
Explore and maybe discover your team’s inner artists in an engaging and inclusive painting activity.
Creativity is an important skill in business. It is also a word that intimidates many people who think ‘I’m not creative’. We believe everyone is creative and there are many types of creativity. Someone may be creative with products, processes, ideas, or even wordsmithing. And, with artistic talent being in the eye of the beholder, our painting activities focus on communication, collaboration, reflection, fun, teamwork and less on artistic talent.
Brush Strokes - Individuals paint their own canvas
In this activity, each person individually paints their interpretation of a theme. After completing a number of warm up activities to get the creativity flowing, teams are presented with the theme of the day. We work with you to design the theme, and this can be around your organisation’s values, team objective, or team focus. Theme suggestions include collaboration, connection, resilience and compassion. The choice of theme is up to you.
Canvas Connect - The group works together to paint a combined picture
In this activity, the group divides into pairs or smaller groups of 3-4 to paint combined canvases. The combined canvas can be one large image, or a collection of smaller images related to multiple themes such as the organisational values. After completing the warm-up activities teams are presented with the theme and begin the process of collaborating on what the image will be. As the design process continues, teams are presented with challenges that test their communication, time management and patience, all designed to build trust, connection and understanding amongst the group.
Outcomes
Team Painting Outcomes:
Innovation – each person will think creatively to interpret the theme to an image
Lateral thinking – taking an abstract theme to a visual representation
Planning – preparing what to paint
Trust – sharing the explanation of your image with your colleagues
Acceptance – there is no right or wrong image to paint, nor good or bad painting- it is all in the person’s interpretation

How does the activity run?
Introduction and Team Warm-Up
The event will begin with your host welcoming you to the event. They will provide an overview of the activity and explain how the activity will run.
Team Painting Launch
Following a couple individual warm-up activities your host will present the theme of the day. For Canvas Connect, this is where you will learn who is on your team.
Team Painting
With everyone knowing the theme of the day, they can start planning their masterpiece. The TeamLinq team will hand out the paint palettes and water cups so the painting can commence. Be warned, as a team building activity it is more than just painting. You will be presented with different challenges throughout the session to enhance your communication and build trust with your colleagues.
Wrap Up
As the finishing time approaches, you will be encouraged to finish up your painting. The host will facilitate a presentation amongst the group with a selection of participants sharing their painting with the wider group. A discussion will follow debriefing with the group about what they learned the session about themselves, the theme or their colleagues. The event wraps up with a team photo and congratulations to everyone.
