About the Course

Many of us have great memories of our first bike, and the sense of freedom it brings. There are also many children that do not have the opportunity to feel this joy and freedom. In this activity, teams of 3-5 build a bike that will be donated to a child who cannot afford a new bike.

In team building style, teams will complete a number of challenges to earn the instructions, tools, helmet, and accessories to build and decorate a children's bicycle.

This activity includes planning and teamwork, communication and collaboration.

Bicycles are suited to children from 4-9 years of age. TeamLab will provide all supplies and equipment, high-quality bicycles, approved bike helmets, facilitation by qualified facilitators, support staff, deliver the bikes within 70kms of Peth CBD, and our mechanic will ensure the bikes meet required safety standards.

Bikes will be donated to a range of local charities or schools that may include: Fostering Hope, Variety WA, RUAH, or your organisational charity partner.

Outcomes

In this activity, team will:

- work together to earn parts and build a bicycle

- strengthen their communication skills as they complete challenges and complete the build

- collaborate with other teams to share tools

- gain a sense of accomplishment and pride in giving a new bike to a child

- enhance their leadership skills, and

- support organisational values on Corporate Social Responsibility.

What we love about Pedal Power - the energy in the room when the tools come out, and knowing deserving children will be getting a brand-new bike.

How does the activity run?
Introduction and Team Warm Up

The event will begin with your host welcoming you to the event. They will provide an overview of the activity and go over the how the activity will run.

Pedal Power Opening

The activity commences with the group being divided into teams of 3-4 and identified by a coloured bandana. The host will run several warm-up activities around the bicycle theme, tapping into the participants memories of their own bikes.

Bicycle Build

Each team will be provided with a bicycle in a box requiring building. Before they can open the box, they need to complete a variety of challenges to earn bicycle parts, tools and decorations. Then they can open the box and begin their building.

Wrap Up

Once the Bikes are built and tested, each team will write a message to the recipient. The session wraps up with a presentation of each bike and a debrief on the activity by the host. The final step is a team photo and congratulations to everyone.
